Canopy Health Is Improving Santa Clara County’s Access to Care

San Jose is the third most populous city in California and the self-proclaimed capital of Silicon Valley. With its robust economy and excellent quality of life, many have moved to the area. To meet the needs of our members and their employers, Canopy Health has expanded its reach in Santa Clara County.

Members can seek treatment Regional Medical Center of San Jose, Good Samaritan Hospital, and with the physicians of the Santa Clara County IPA (SCCIPA). This expansion reflects our commitment to our members, high-quality healthcare, and our goal of delivering refreshingly clear, human care throughout the entire Bay Area.

Technologically Advanced Healthcare in San Jose

Regional Medical Center offers San Jose and Santa Clara residents comprehensive, cutting-edge healthcare services, including cardiovascular, neurology, emergency and trauma, and surgical services. In 2014, it opened a new, four-story hospital tower as part of a $330 million expansion and renovation project. Regional Medical Center currently houses six Centers of Excellence and has multiple Joint Commission accreditations.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

Regional Medical Center is home to Santa Clara County’s busiest stroke program. The Joint Commission certified it as a Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2014. It uses advanced stroke solutions that can help preserve brain tissue and pinpoint the cause of a patient’s stroke. Its Neuro ICU is open 24/7 and is staffed by neurocritical care specialists. Skilled neurosurgeons are on staff that have access to Brainlab Cranial software and equipment. Once a patient is stabilized, the hospital’s team of physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists help them regain function and rebuild.

Certified Chest Pain and Heart Attack Specialists

The hospital is one of Santa Clara County’s designated ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) receiving centers. STEMI heart attacks cause the highest fatality rates — and Regional Medical Center has the equipment, expertise, and systems in place to give patients the best chance of survival. Due to the diverse nature of San Jose, its cardiac team is multicultural and multilingual, offering services in Chinese, Farsi, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages.

Additionally, its accredited Chest Pain Center provides treatment for patients with congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, and other serious cardiac conditions.

Technologically-Advanced Pulmonary Care

The pulmonary specialists at the Regional Medical Center have access to some of the most advanced pulmonary treatments in the United States. They specialize in interventional pulmonology — a new field that focuses on minimally invasive methods of diagnosing and treating lung disease, cancers, and other pulmonary conditions. When necessary, they can also coordinate care with the hospital’s teams of skilled oncologists and surgeons.

The Only Bay Area Trauma Center with a Coast Guard-Certified Blackhawk Grade Helipad

Regional Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Center serves multiple Bay Area counties via its air ambulance helipad. It is the only hospital in the Bay Area that the Coast Guard has certified for Blackhawk-grade landings. Once trauma patients arrive, they benefit from a multidisciplinary team of specialists, a dedicated operating room, four-bed resuscitation bay, and a 34-bed intensive care unit (ICU).

It is also one of the only hospitals in the United States to offer extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) services to its patients. This portable heart-lung system can be quickly put in place when a patient is experiencing pulmonary or cardiac failure — saving their lives and preserving their vital organs during an emergency.
