As part of its 2018 expansion, Canopy Health is proud to announce that Sequoia Hospital is officially joining our alliance. The hospital has served San Mateo County for over 60 years and is operated by Dignity Health — California’s largest non-profit hospital provider. With 330 patient beds and a new hospital pavilion, it balances advanced technology with patient-focused care.
Cutting Edge Healthcare in San Mateo County
Sequoia Hospital delivers comprehensive healthcare services to San Mateo County, including emergency services, diagnostic imaging and radiology, and cancer care. From the very beginning, the hospital has embraced healthcare technology that improves patient outcomes. And in recent years, many of its programs have received recognition for their excellent care.
Heart & Vascular Institute
San Mateo County relies on Sequoia Hospital for cardiac care, and the Heart & Vascular Institute’s statistics are impressive:
- It provides some of the fastest cardiac care in California, beating the American Heart Association’s recommended response times almost every time.
- It has one of the country’s highest survival rates for heart valve replacement surgeries.
- The Institute does more atrial fibrillation ablation surgeries than almost any other West Coast cardiac program.
Additionally, the Heart & Vascular Institute offers minimally invasive cardiac surgeries that can reduce patient recovery times.
Healthgrades recognized Sequoia Hospital as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for cardiac surgery in 2018. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has also given the hospital the highest possible ranking for its performance of aortic valve replacement surgeries.
Center for Total Joint Replacement
Sequoia Hospital specializes in knee, hip, and shoulder replacement surgeries and orthopedic care. In addition to orthopedic surgeons, the Center employs specialists, therapists, and other clinicians who can help diagnose and manage orthopedic conditions. In 2016, it was designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement due to its expertise.
A trusted favorite among Bay Area families, Sequoia Hospital’s Birth Center houses a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The center offers all private rooms, International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant nurses, and 24-hour anesthesiology and OB services.
Sequoia Hospital’s Stroke Program is certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, demonstrating its use of stroke care best practices. The American Heart Association also awarded the hospital its Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award in 2017.
In addition to cardiac and joint replacement surgeries, Sequoia Hospital’s gynecologic surgery program received a Five-Star rating from Healthgrades in 2018. The hospital has 13 dedicated surgical suites and offers advanced surgical options, including Mobi-C cervical disc surgery and robotic surgeries using a da Vinci Si system.
Healthgrades awarded the hospital a Five-Star rating for its treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 2018
Focusing on High Quality Patient Experiences
At Canopy Health, we believe our members benefit from refreshingly clear, human care. Sequoia Hospital shares this belief and strives to deliver exceptional patient experience.
In 2017, Sequoia Hospital received Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award and Outstanding Patient Experience Award, ranking within the top three percent of U.S. hospitals. Similarly, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services gave the hospital a 5-star rating for Quality in 2017.
With the opening of its new hospital pavilion and renovations to its main hospital, Sequoia Hospital also offers improved facilities and is on target to meet all of California’s seismic regulations.
Collaborating with Other Top-Ranked Hospitals
Sequoia Hospital partners with some of the best care centers in the country. Since 2015, it has been affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic’s Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute — the country’s top cardiac program. The two hospitals share knowledge, best practices, and work together to improve cardiac research and patient outcomes. The hospital also partners with UCSF Health and Stanford Children’s Health.
