Today, healthcare’s challenge is to improve access to care while staying at the forefront of innovation. Canopy Health’s mission is to reinvent healthcare in the Bay Area and meet the needs of its members.

With the increase in demand and popularity of telehealth, Canopy Health sought an advanced, forward-thinking technology partner to create the MyCanopyHealth mobile app and web portal feature, Video Visits. Read on to learn more.

How Is Healthcare Innovation Relevant for Employers?

A recent study by the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions found that employees want a convenient healthcare experience. Two of the most important factors that influence employee perceptions of convenience, according to Deloitte researchers, are accessibility and hours of availability.

As Canopy Health members, your employees have 24/7 access to Video Visits for minor, non-emergency health issues. Members can videoconference directly and in real-time with an experienced clinician who can assess their symptoms and determine next steps. Video Visits provide access to some of the top primary care physicians (PCPs), specialists, and therapists directly from a member’s preferred device, regardless of location or time of day and with no appointment necessary.

What Are Some Other Benefits of Video Visits?

Another benefit of Canopy Health’s Video Visits is that your employees will save a great deal of time when they have medical issues, letting them focus on their personal and professional lives. Traveling to and from a doctor’s office, emergency room, or outpatient clinic can eat up most of the day, especially when there’s paperwork involved or scheduling constraints. Video Visits eliminate physical and logistical barriers to healthcare and let patients avoid traffic, complicated public transportation, and lengthy commutes from rural areas. Video Visits also improve access for individuals with chronic health issues, disabilities, and mobility problems.

Not only is Video Visits a more convenient consultation method for non-emergency care, but it can cut down on healthcare costs. Many Bay Area residents rely on ridesharing services and public transportation for their transit needs. Depending on the length of the trip, traffic congestion, or the number of transfers on the BART system, healthcare travel can become expensive. Video Visits eliminate these unnecessary costs by bringing Canopy Health members’ care to them.

Video Visits can also cut down on missed time at work. Because your team can seek care on their own terms, they won’t have to use their valuable PTO or take unpaid time off for doctor’s appointments. That’s more money in your employee’s pockets and more productivity in your workplace.

How Do Video Visits Work?

Once logged in, a member will answer a few basic questions about symptoms and may even be able to upload photos. The patient will then consult with a physician who will assess their condition, provide a diagnosis, and suggest follow-up treatment. Depending on the situation, the provider may even refer the patient to a specialist or prescribe helpful medication, which the provider can send to the pharmacy electronically.

Video Visit summaries are then stored in the private and secure dashboard in the MyCanopyHealth mobile app and can be shared automatically with the member’s PCP.

Canopy Health Is Working With American Well® to Reinvent Healthcare in the Bay Area

Canopy Health recently partnered with American Well® to launch American Well’s web and mobile software development kit (SDK) partnership. Canopy Health is the first of American Well’s clients to roll out this technology partnership, which allows seamless integration between Canopy Health and American Well and offers Canopy Health members real-time video conferencing with board-certified medical providers.

Other Virtual Features Available Through the MyCanopyHealth Mobile App and Member Portal

Members can download the MyCanopyHealth mobile app or visit the member portal on their desktop web browser to access powerful digital tools. These tools include:

Members can research and find the right primary care physicians, hospitals, and urgent care centers based on their specific needs. The Doctors & Services Search tool also provides additional details about Canopy Health clinicians and facilities, such as languages spoken, medical group, contact information, and whether a PCP is accepting new patients.

Virtual ID Card

Rather than having to rely on a hard copy of their Canopy Health ID, members can pull up the MyCanopyHealth mobile app on their tablet or smartphone and use their Virtual ID Card when visiting their PCP, specialist, Canopy Health affiliate hospital, or outpatient care center.

Benefits Summary

Canopy Health members can easily access the essential details of their health plans and coverage at their convenience by logging in to the MyCanopyHealth mobile app or member portal.

Cost Estimator (Beta Version)

When a specialist recommends a common procedure like an MRI or knee arthroscopy, a member can use Canopy Health’s Cost Estimator tool, which provides estimates for many common services and procedures performed within our network. We aggregate these figures with our alliance partners to provide a close estimate of costs, regardless of where the patient seeks treatment or which physicians they visit.

Out-of-Pocket Accumulator

Members who want to know their out-of-pocket costs can log into the MyCanopyHealth mobile app or member portal to track out-of-pocket costs and payments until their plan deductible kicks in. This tool helps members prepare to pay for services, avoid surprises, and gain greater peace of mind throughout their healthcare journey.

In addition to the features listed previously, the MyCanopyHealth mobile app and member portal will provide blogs and infographics about health literacy and education, industry trends, and news about the Canopy Health network and carrier partners. The app and portal will also offer helpful tips members can use to improve their overall health and wellness.

The Canopy Health Member Journey

We believe Canopy Health members deserve an educational and engaging user experience that incorporates multiple platforms and media. This experience should encourage them to interact with their network at vital touchpoints throughout the healthcare continuum.

We also know that creating a useful platform isn’t enough. We need to encourage individuals and families to use the tools to improve their health and wellness. One way we’re attempting to accomplish this goal is by working closely with employers to emphasize our commitment to providing a seamless, convenient, and effective healthcare journey for all our members — and constantly optimizing and improving our efforts to do so.
