At Canopy Health, we are immensely proud of the renowned physicians, hospitals, and care centers within our network. Not only are these doctors and facilities exceptionally skilled and efficient, but they also work extremely hard to care for the diverse needs of all Bay Area residents.

In fact, the San Francisco Business Times reports that four hospitals within the Canopy Health network were among the busiest in the Bay Area during 2016. The list includes hospitals located in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties, as well as the city of Palo Alto, and was created using information from the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.

USCF Medical Center

Owned by the University of California and led by CEO Mark Laret, UCSF Medical Center was the busiest hospital in the Bay Area in 2016. Its 216,074 patient days exceeded the second busiest hospital (Stanford Health Care) by 60,000. USCF Medical Center had, on average, 753 staffed patient beds. Not only is UCSF Medical Center extremely busy and efficient, but it was also ranked in the top 10 of the nation’s best hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report for the 15th consecutive year in 2016.

Highland Hospital

Part of the Alameda Health System, Highland Hospital is another vital affiliate within the Canopy Health network and was the fifth busiest Bay Area Hospital in 2016. During that year, the facility achieved 117,210 patient days with an average patient stay of 7.43 days. Anchored by their CEO Delvecchio Finley, Highland Hospital also reported a 72% occupancy rate of their 330 staffed beds. In addition to these figures, Highland Hospital recently received “Quest for Zero” recognition in both “Excellence in ED” and Excellence in OB.” And in 2019, the second phase of the new Acute Care Tower (a nine-story, 169-bed acute care facility) will be complete. This new wing will feature intensive care, medical/surgical beds, labor, delivery, neonatal intensive care, and miscellaneous diagnostic, treatment, and support functions.

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek

The Walnut Creek Medical Center serves as the only trauma center for Contra Costa County and portions of Solano County and was the seventh busiest hospital in the Bay Area in 2016. Like UCSF Medical Center, it consistently receives high praise and recognition from U.S. News and World Report on a regional, state, and national level. Its primary specialties include emergency care, pediatrics, and oncology. In 2016, the hospital tallied a total of 97,646 patient days with an average length of stay of 4.87 days.

Alameda Hospital

Coming in 13th overall on the list of 2016’s busiest Bay Area hospitals is Alameda Hospital, which is also a part of the Alameda Health System. Alameda Hospital is a local leader in emergency, inpatient, outpatient care, and wellness services. It achieved a total of 72,337 patient days in 2016 ─ with 217 staffed patient beds and an average occupancy of 91.1%. The average length of a patient stay was 25.45 days, and Alameda Hospital was recently awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification by the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association, and The Joint Commission.
