Canopy Health will be partnering with Health Net, one of California’s largest health insurance companies, to provide Bay Area residents with access to our robust network of affiliate healthcare organizations, hospitals, urgent cares, and primary care physicians and specialists.

“We are excited about our new arrangement with Health Net to provide those with its SmartCare coverage, including CalPERS beneficiaries, with access to our nearly 4,000 primary care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers across seven Bay Area counties,” said Joel Criste, CEO of Canopy Health.

According to George Anderson, vice president of Major Accounts for Health Net, Bay Area consumers and employers (including the California Public Employees’ Retirement System ─ CalPERS ─ beneficiaries) are preparing for 2017-18 Open Enrollment. Now, eligible beneficiaries, employees, and their dependents can access the Canopy Health network of 15 renowned hospitals and 11 provider organizations by selecting Health Net’s SmartCare coverage for 2018.

“Bay Area members who select our SmartCare coverage for 2018 will be able to select Canopy Health and have a significantly wider choice of healthcare providers than before,” said Steve Sell, president and chief executive officer of Health Net. “And members choosing a medical group in the Canopy Health alliance may be referred to any specialist in the alliance.”

Canopy Health and Health Net have contracted since 2016 to provide access to care for University of California employees and their dependents covered through the Health Net Blue & Gold network. In 2018, the Canopy Health network will be available to Health Net members in seven counties, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco Counties, as well as parts of San Mateo, Solano, and Sonoma Counties.

“We believe that Canopy Health’s alliance with health care providers will provide consumers a quality coverage choice that will help them effectively manage their care at a predictable cost,” said Sell. “We continue to find additional ways to make quality, affordable coverage available to our Bay Area customers.”
