Canopy Health Expands in 2018
Canopy Health expanded in early 2018, broadening our reach in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. In Santa Clara County, we added Good Samaritan Hospital, Regional Medical Center of San Jose, and SCCIPA to our impressive alliance of physicians, hospitals, and care centers. Now, our members can choose from roughly 5,000 physicians, 18 hospitals, and numerous outpatient and urgent care facilities located throughout eight Bay Area counties.

The hospital has also adopted advanced healthcare technologies that provide minimally-invasive treatment options to patients — improving outcomes and reducing recovery times. Its doctors have access to two daVinci Xi robotic surgery systems, a Cyberknife robotic radiosurgery system, and the South Bay’s first intensity modulated radiation therapy system.
It also is in the midst of an Emergency Room Department renovation that will double Good Samaritan Hospital’s ER square footage and offer advanced diagnostic and specialized rooms for trauma, cardiac, and pediatric patients.

Comprehensive Cancer Center
Good Samaritan Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center is nationally recognized for its commitment to quality and patient-focused care. For five consecutive years, the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer awarded Good Samaritan Hospital its Outstanding Achievement Award. Only two other hospitals in the United States have achieved this level of recognition.
Cancer patients have access to cutting-edge surgical, medical, and radiological treatment options at Good Samaritan Hospital and its Outpatient Infusion Center. Its innovative lung cancer screening program helps at-risk patients identify cancers early on, improving their likelihood of survival. And the hospital offers programs that support cancer patients and their families throughout their journey.
Stroke and Rehabilitation Programs
Good Samaritan Hospital was the first Bay Area medical center to achieve Joint Commission certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Patients receive care from a multidisciplinary team of board-certified physicians, accredited nurses, and rehabilitation therapists. It also was the first Santa Clara County community-based hospital to offer IV thrombolytic therapy, which can restore circulation to the brain and help prevent damage to important brain tissues.
Once a stroke patient has stabilized, he or she might receive care from Good Samaritan Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program. This CARF-accredited program is in the top 5% of inpatient rehabilitation programs in the United States and boasts some of the best rates of functional improvement and patient discharge to home (rather than to a long-term care center) in the Bay Area.
Birth Center
Good Samaritan’s Birthing Center was included in Bay Area Parent Magazine’s Hall of Fame as the “Best Place to Have a Baby” and a “Family Favorite.” The Birthing Center’s amenities include private, updated labor and delivery suites, access to certified nurse midwives, and 24/7 anesthesia and pain management services from board-certified specialists. When a newborn needs care in the hospitals’ Level III NICU, Good Samaritan offers family-focused services such as sibling child-care during visits, transportation assistance, and help finding local, overnight accommodations.
