John Muir Health Medical Centers Recognized by U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of America’s Best Hospitals in August, and John Muir Health Medical Centers at Concord and Walnut Creek received high praise.

In August, U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of America’s Best Hospitals, and John Muir Health’s Concord and Walnut Creek medical centers both earned the distinction of Best Regional Hospitals ─ a designation achieved by only 10% of hospitals throughout the country.

U.S. News & World Report Best Regional Hospitals Requirements

To be included in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals list, hospitals and medical centers are required to achieve at least one national ranking in a specialty area or at least four “high performing” ratings among 16 specialties and nine procedures and conditions. In all, the two medical centers at Concord and Walnut Creek had seven specialties either nationally ranked or rated as high performing. In addition, nine procedures and conditions were rated as high performing, making John Muir Health Concord and Walnut Creek Medical Centers among the highest ranked hospitals in the Bay Area and state of California.

John Muir Health, Walnut Creek

This is the 11th year in a row that John Muir Health, Walnut Creek Medical Center has earned distinction for a nationally-ranked service. For the past six years, Walnut Creek has been nationally ranked in gynecology. This year, the medical center also ranked as high performing in numerous other specialties, procedures, and conditions, including:

John Muir Health, Walnut Creek Medical Center is one of only 152 medical centers in the United States to be ranked nationally in even one of 16 specialties surveyed (much less six).

Like its counterpart in Walnut Creek, John Muir Health, Concord Medical Center also received high marks from U.S. News & World Report, ranking as high performing in 13 specialties, procedures, and conditions:

State and Metropolitan Hospital Rankings

In addition to elite national ratings, John Muir Health Medical Centers at Concord and Walnut Creek also received recognition from U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals state and metropolitan rankings. The Walnut Creek campus was listed at #2 out of 44 hospitals in the Bay Area and #11 out of more than 400 acute care hospitals in the state. The Concord campus was listed as #3 in the Bay Area and #13 in California.

John Muir Health is a founding member of the Canopy Health alliance and is excited to include their network of more than 1,000 primary care providers and specialists to the overall Canopy Health network of nearly 5,000 physicians. With 554 patient beds, John Muir Health, Walnut Creek is the designated trauma center for Contra Costa County. The Concord campus has 245 beds and is recognized as a distinguished cancer and cardiac care center.
